REVEAL OF IDENTITY

How do you know your position in society, and how do you prove that?

This project is a ceramic sculpture that incorporates a lighting element. The story is from the Homeric Hymn to Hermes: As a illegitimate son of god Zeus and nymph Maia, 1-day old Hermes had a desire to taste beef—something not meant for a god—suggesting an underlying anxiety about mortality, both his mother Maia’s and his own.

The moment is when he cooked the beef and not able to eat it—reveals his divine identity.
